Bring the Conversation Home.
House Chats are intimate, small-group conversations built around Book One, Nobody Told Me I Am Black: Setting the Stage, The Race Cards tools, the four levels, and the stories and experiences that inspired the series.
Depending on who is in the room, some of those stories may involve you. Unlike a traditional author event, you create the room.
You decide when. You decide where. You decide who joins in.
Invite the people you believe are ready for an honest conversation about race. That may include people who are already deeply engaged, as well as people who are just beginning to explore the conversation.
Groups are intentionally small: five to ten people. That keeps the conversation personal, gives everyone room to participate, and allows the discussion to go where it naturally leads.
Every group is different. The conversation is shaped by the people in the room, the questions they bring, and where they are in their own understanding.
Why Get Involved?
Whether a mother, daughter, sister, grandmother or even father, son, brother, grandfather. Whether a business owner, employer, director, manager, manager, or employee. Whether dating, engaged, married or divorced. Whether besties forever or new friend.
Having honest conversations do not come naturally. We were mostly told to “keep that to yourself.” We did, and it’s not working.
Let’s learn how to have these conversations, so when a situation occurs you make the best decision possible for the best outcome versus lying awake at night wishing you had done something.
Recommended tools:

This concept can also be used in an office, church, community center, school or really any setting where private, comfortable conversations can be had. If local to Phoenix, attend the upcoming House Chats at the Afri-Soul Education Center on Thursday, November 5th from 4pm to 6pm.

Why Have K.A. Gilmore Facilitate?
These conversation can go places the book and cards alone cannot. As the author of Nobody Told Me I Am Black and creator of The Race Cards, K.A. Gilmore brings the stories, context, and intention behind the questions into the room.
Karen guides the conversation, keeps it moving, creates space for different perspectives, and helps participants engage honestly without turning the discussion into a lecture, debate, or performance.
There is a small fee to cover Karen’s time and expertise.
